Nadia and Carol
Nadia Comaneci was born on the 12th of November, 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti), Romania. Nadia is the Romanian Olympic gymnast, and is the only person to be given 10/10 points at an Olympic competition. Comaneci was first discovered by Bela Karolyi who was later her Romanian gymnastics coach at the time she was just six years old. The year 1969 was the first time she participated in the Romanian Junior Championships where she placed 13th. In 1970, she won the title. In 1972, in the communist nations' meet for junior athletes before the Olympics she took home three gold medals. In 1973 and 1974, she became the overall junior champion. At her first competition as a senior athlete in the year 1975, she beat out Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva who was a five-time European champion winning four gold medals as well as one silver.
