April Lockhart

April Lockhart is a born July 4th in 1995. When she was in the 7th grade she started taking piano and guitar lessons. This ignited her passion for songwriting. In the teen years, April wrote her first tune Different. When she was 14 April devoted a great deal of time composing lyrics and practising her musical skills. Soon after she began taking trips to write with her father in NY and LA. April was able to add other relevant topics into the song, such as the Take my Hand song for some of her friends, like peer-pressure impairments and even suicide among teenagers. Lockhart works in partnerships at the well-known clean beauty brand Ilia and is an influencer in the lifestyle industry with an increasing following of her own. She was born with no left hand and that is what makes her different. It's not the only thing about her. So, Lockhart's Instagram profile isn't afraid to talk about the fact that she is disabled, but the focus isn't on her disability either. The message? that we are all a part of a multitude of identities and that we are greater than the physical person we are. I don't want that to define me I don't want to be a disability influencer where that's all I talk about, because there are many other aspects to me Lockhart speaks via video from her home in Nashville. My day-today life is not directly affected by disability. I lead a normal daily life, and come up with my own solutions to issues. It's also part of me and I feel that it's important to speak about. Self-acceptance is a lifelong marathon however Lockhart is truly an inspiration on that front. Lockhart admits that she goes through phases when it comes to her body. She was uncertain about clothing choices which showed her arms. She wears whatever she wants and posts photos of herself wearing the clothes she chooses on social media. Self-love, she says is a process. It's hard to say if you'll ever make it to the finish line. It's a fact that I see with anyone, no matter what their issue is. It's essential to have those in your life who know and are able to understand. They will be able to remind you that you're anxious about.
